Zhik sailing clothing is built for sailors who spend real time on the water, from frosty winter club racing to a full week at a nationals. Born in Sydney and developed alongside Olympic and World champions, Zhik is best known for its Superwarm and Microfleece wetsuits and its grippy hiking boots. Pick a category below to go straight to the kit you need.
Dinghy racers make up most of our Zhik customers: ILCA sailors after hikers and boots that lock onto the toe strap, and skiff and trapeze crews who need a harness and a suit that moves with them. You don't need to be chasing trophies though. If you sail through a British winter, a warm, flexible wetsuit makes every session better.
Start with the water temperature you sail in most. Zhik Superwarm is the choice for the coldest months, while Zhik Microfleece suits spring, autumn and cooler summer days. Fit matters as much as warmth: Zhik wetsuits should feel snug with no baggy areas, so check the size chart on each product page before you order.
Finish the outfit with Zhik sailing boots, a low profile Zhik PFD and gloves or headwear for the cold. Yes, Zhik costs more than some brands, but it is kit that lasts season after season. Not sure what you need? Call or email us and we'll talk it through, sailor to sailor.
Some frequently asked questions that other customers have asked us about Zhik Sailing Clothing.
What is Zhik and where is it from?
Zhik started in a Sydney garage in 2003, set up by a sailor who was fed up with kit that didn’t fit or work properly on the water. It has grown into one of the best known names in dinghy sailing clothing, with wetsuits, boots and buoyancy aids designed around how sailors actually move in a boat.
How do you pronounce Zhik?
We get asked this a lot. Zhik rhymes with bike, so it’s “Zike”, not “Zhick” or “Zeek”. It catches plenty of people out, so now you can say it with confidence at the sailing club.
Is Zhik sailing clothing worth the money?
We think so. Zhik sits at the higher end on price, but the kit is developed with elite sailors and tested in real racing conditions. The fit, materials and stitching hold up to seasons of hard use, so you replace it less often. Our advice is simple: invest in the kit you wear every time you sail.
What is the difference between Zhik Superwarm and Zhik Microfleece?
Superwarm is Zhik’s warmest wetsuit, made for winter sailing and cold water. Microfleece is lighter and more flexible, which suits spring, autumn and cooler summer days. Plenty of UK sailors own both and swap as the season changes. If you only buy one, choose for the months you sail most.
How does Zhik sizing fit?
Zhik wetsuits are cut close to the body, which is what keeps you warm and stops the suit bagging when wet. Use the size chart on each product page and go by your chest, waist and height measurements. If you are between sizes, get in touch and we’ll help you choose.
Which Zhik boots are best for hiking?
For hiking boats like the ILCA, look at the Zhik Hiking X boots. The sole is designed to grip the toe strap and support your foot and ankle through long upwind legs. Pair them with a Zhik Grip II hiking strap and the boot and strap work together to hold you in place.
How should I look after my Zhik wetsuit?
Rinse it in fresh water after every sail, inside and out, then dry it in the shade, away from direct sunlight and heaters. Hang it folded over a wide hanger, not by the shoulders, and store it flat or hanging once dry. Looked after this way, it will last for seasons.
Can I return Zhik clothing if it doesn’t fit?
Yes. We offer 90 day risk free returns, so you can try your kit on at home and send it back if the size isn’t right. We also have a Price Match Promise, so if you find the same Zhik item cheaper elsewhere, let us know.
