Every racing dinghy needs clear, correctly sized sail numbers and class insignia, and getting them right keeps you legal on the start line and easy to spot on the water. Whether you are kitting out a new sail or replacing numbers that have peeled and faded, the right set makes your boat look sharp and saves you a protest over illegible identification.
Our sail numbers and letters are self adhesive, weatherproof and cut to the class rules for the boats sailors ask about most, including Laser and ILCA, Topper, SB20, RS200, RS400, RS600, RS800, RS Aero, RS Feva and RS Tera. They go on cleanly, stay stuck through UV, salt and repeated rigging, and come in the standard heights and colours each class requires.
As dinghy racers ourselves, we know a tidy sail with crisp numbers is worth the few minutes it takes to apply them properly. Pick your class above, choose your digits and letters, and you are ready for the next club race or open meeting.

What size sail numbers do I need?
Sail number height is set by your class rules, not personal preference, so check your class association handbook before ordering. As a rough guide, most dinghy classes use numbers around 230mm to 300mm tall, with the exact height, spacing and minimum stroke width specified per class. Laser and ILCA, RS and Topper classes each have their own requirements, so if you are unsure, tell us your boat and we will point you to the correct size.
Are these sail numbers self adhesive?
Yes. Our sail numbers and letters are self adhesive, so there is no sewing or sailmaker visit needed. You peel, position and press them onto clean dry sailcloth and they are ready to sail. They are designed to hold through UV, salt water and repeated rigging across a full season.
What colour should my sail numbers be?
Most classes specify black numbers as standard, though some require a contrasting colour on darker sails. Your class rules will state the approved colour. If you are racing under a specific class, stick to what the rule book allows to avoid any issue with measurement or scrutineering.
How do I apply self adhesive sail numbers?
Lay your sail flat on a clean surface and wipe the area with a mild cleaner so it is free of salt and grease. Mark your positions lightly, peel the backing, then apply each character from one edge to the other, smoothing out air bubbles as you go. Press firmly all over once positioned, and avoid sailing for a few hours if you can to let the adhesive bond fully.
Do I need numbers on both sides of the sail?
For most racing classes, yes. Numbers are usually applied to both sides of the mainsail, with the starboard side set slightly higher than the port side so they read correctly when overlapping. Your class rules confirm the exact placement and offset.
Can I order individual digits and letters?
Yes. You can build up the exact sail number and class letters you need from individual characters, which is handy when you only need to replace a damaged digit rather than the whole set. Choose your class above to see what is available for your boat.
