Whether you race competitively or sail at your club, the right jib sheet rope makes trimming faster, smoother, and easier on the hands. Our jib sheets are chosen for the grip, low stretch, and comfortable handling that dinghy sailors actually need on the water. You'll find tapered sheets, uncovered Dyneema, and soft-feel polyester braids from trusted brands including Marlow and Kingfisher Ropes. Find the right sheet for your boat and class below.

What diameter jib sheet do I need for my dinghy?
Most dinghy jib sheets fall between 4mm and 8mm. Smaller boats and junior classes suit 6mm for lighter handling, while larger dinghies benefit from 8mm for better grip. Check your class rules, as some one-design classes specify permitted diameters and rope types.
How long should my jib sheet be?
Length depends on your boat and whether you sail with a continuous or two-part sheet. As a guide, measure from the clew to the helm position with enough slack to ease fully on a run. We can cut sheets to length, so measure your existing sheet or ask us for class-specific guidance.
What's the difference between tapered and uncovered jib sheets?
Tapered sheets have the cover stripped back where the rope runs through blocks, reducing weight and bulk while keeping a grippy cover where you hold it. Uncovered Dyneema is lighter still and runs freely, though it offers less grip, making it better suited to experienced racers.
Which jib sheet ropes grip best for hiking sailors?
Soft-feel polyester braids and covered sheets with a textured finish give the most reliable grip, especially when wet or under load. These hold securely in the hand during long hikes upwind, reducing the effort needed to maintain trim through gusts.
Can I use the same rope for jib sheets and other control lines?
Some ropes work across multiple jobs, but jib sheets have specific demands around grip and handling that dedicated sheet ropes meet best. Control lines often prioritise low stretch over comfort, so it's worth choosing the right rope for each application rather than compromising on either.
