Gill Sailing Clothing Frequently Asked Questions

Some frequently asked questions that other customers have asked us about Gill Sailing Clothing.

Where is Gill sailing clothing from?

Gill is a British brand. Nick Gill started it in 1975 in a corner of his father’s textile factory in Long Eaton, Nottingham, because he couldn’t find sailing kit that did the job. It has since grown into one of the best known names in sailing clothing, worn everywhere from club dinghy parks to offshore races.

Why choose Gill sailing clothing?

Gill gives you well thought out kit at a fair price. The designs are simple, tough and made for real sailing, with reinforced seats and knees, grippy boot soles and gloves that last. It suits club sailors who want gear that works every weekend without paying top end race team prices.

What is the difference between Gill ZenTherm and ZenLite?

ZenTherm is Gill’s warmer neoprene system, made for cold water and winter sailing. ZenLite is thinner and more flexible for spring, summer and warm regattas. Both come as long johns and tops, so you can mix them to suit the day. Many sailors own a ZenLite set and add ZenTherm for the colder months.

Does Gill make kit for dinghy sailors as well as yacht sailors?

Yes. Gill started out in dinghy sailing and still makes a full dinghy collection: wetsuits, spray tops, boots, gloves and buoyancy aids. Alongside that sits the coastal and offshore clothing for keelboat and yacht sailors. Most of what we stock is chosen with dinghy sailors in mind.

How do I look after my Gill kit?

Rinse everything in fresh water after sailing, especially after salt water, and let it dry naturally away from direct heat and strong sunlight. Dry wetsuits and boots inside out first. Store kit dry and loosely hung or folded. A few minutes of care after each sail adds seasons to its life.
