Product Information

  • Gill Edge 2.0 Boot - Black

If you hike hard, your boots take a beating that a general sailing boot was never designed for. The Gill Edge 2.0 is built for exactly that: hours on the toe straps in a hiking dinghy, where support underfoot and a fit that does not move are worth more than anything else.

The upper is 4mm double-lined neoprene, so feet stay warm through winter series racing, and the seams are glued and blindstitched to keep water ingress down. Wet feet are inevitable in a dinghy, but cold ones are what end the session early.

Fit is where this boot earns its keep. A lace closure lets you tune the tension across the foot, and a wide adjustable ankle strap sits over the top to lock everything down. Get that right and there is no heel lift and no slop when you load up on the straps, which is the difference between hiking properly and fighting your footwear.

Underfoot is Gill's stiffest outsole, which spreads the pressure of a toe strap across the whole foot instead of concentrating it on one painful bar. There is also moulded textured reinforcement across the bridge to grip the strap rather than slide over it. The wrap-around natural rubber sole is non-marking, so it is fine on a foredeck or a club changing room floor.

The rear ankle construction has been reworked over the previous version for more flexibility, which makes the walk down to the water and the shuffle around the boat park easier than a stiff boot usually allows.

Worth knowing: this is a performance hiking boot, not a general purpose one. If you mostly cruise or want something to slip on for a club sail, a softer boot will be more comfortable and cheaper.
