Why should I choose a skiff suit over a traditional wetsuit for my sailing?
The skiff suit will offer you better flexibility in regulating your temperature and allows you to choose different tops based on the conditions. For example you could wear a winter skiff suit wetsuit but pair it with a rash vest. This combination would keep your legs and body warm but leave your top open on a sunnier day.
Are all sailing skiff suits made from neoprene?
No, not all skiff suits are made from neoprene. Some manufacturers still make skiff suits and wetsuits from neoprene but others are moving towards more eco-friendly options such as Yulex rubber.
What thickness skiff suit do I need for sailing?
The thickness of your skiff suit depends on when and where you are sailing. Many modern skiff suits are designed to be thinner and use advanced wetsuit technologies and materials to keep you warm whilst sailing. You'll find that the summer sailing skiff suits we sell start from 1mm thick and the winter skiff suits start from 3mm thick. The days of needing a thick 5mm wetsuit are behind us. By using a skiff suit you can choose the thickness of the skiff suit as well as thickness of the wetsuit top.
What should I wear under a skiff suit?
In colder months you'll want to pair your sailing skiff suit with a top that has thermal insulation or a base layer top. In the summer you'll want to go for something thinner and cooling such as a rash vest.
Are skiff suits restrictive?
No, they are not restrictive. Many of the skiff suits we offer are made from stretch neoprene or other equivalent materials. The skiff suit will bend and flex to your body shape and will keep itself tight against your body whilst also allowing plenty of flexibility and movement.
How should I wash a wetsuit or skiff suit?
After sailing you should wash your skiff suit with fresh water, ring it out and hang up to dry out of the sun. Ensure the skiff suit is supported correctly when hanging up to dry.
