An over boom dinghy cover is the choice for a boat that stays fully rigged in the dinghy park all season. The cover goes over the boom to make a tent shape, so rain runs straight off the sides instead of sitting on top, and the cockpit stays dry and ready to sail. Often called an overboom or boom up cover, it’s the one most club sailors keep on their boat from March to October.
We make every cover in the UK and cut it to the shape of the class, so the Enterprise cover fits an Enterprise and the Fireball cover fits a Fireball. Choose heavy duty 460gsm PVC in blue or grey, or breathable AquaMax, which lets air move through so there’s less condensation and heat trapped against the boat on a long sunny spell.
Velcro and buckles close the cover from the mast to the bow, there’s protection where the shrouds sit and soft webbing straps run under the hull. PVC covers are guaranteed for 5 years and AquaMax for 3 years, and every cover is made to order for you.
Trailing the boat instead? Try our flat mast down dinghy covers. Prefer a lower profile with the boom off? See our mast up dinghy covers.

Why choose an over boom cover?
Because it sheds water. The boom acts as a ridge pole, so rain runs off rather than pooling, and the cockpit stays dry. It also means you can leave the boat fully rigged between sails, which saves time on a club evening when you just want to get on the water.
Does an over boom cover catch the wind?
The tent shape has a higher profile than a flat cover, so on a very exposed site it will catch more wind. Keep the under hull straps and transom tie down tight and the cover sits firmly. If your dinghy park is wide open to the weather, a mast up cover is a lower profile alternative.
Do I need to take the sail off?
Yes. The cover goes over the bare boom with the mainsail removed, and the jib should come down too. Leaving sails rigged under any cover wears the cloth and traps moisture, so drop them, dry them where you can and stow them in a sail bag.
What are the extra deep sides on AquaMax covers?
Our covers have 200mm deep sides as standard. On AquaMax covers we extend the sides to 450mm wherever the shape of the hull allows, at no extra cost, giving the topsides more protection from sun, rain and dirt. Deep sides are only available on AquaMax covers.
How do I look after the cover?
Hose it down now and then to get rid of bird mess and grime, and let it dry before folding it away. Avoid harsh cleaners on PVC. Check the straps and buckles at the start of each season and keep them snug through the year so the cover can’t flap and chafe.
