Product Information

  • Gill Junior Edge 2.0 Boot - Black

Young sailors put their feet through the same punishment as adults, usually with less strength to cope with it. The Gill Junior Edge 2.0 gives them the support to hike properly and the warmth to stay out for the whole session rather than asking to come in early.

It is the junior version of Gill's Edge 2.0, built on the same design rather than a softened down version of it. The upper is 4mm double-lined neoprene with glued and blindstitched seams, so feet stay warm through winter training and spring open meetings.

Fit comes from a lace closure with a wide adjustable ankle strap over the top. That combination matters more for children than adults: growing feet and thin ankles slop around inside a boot that only pulls in one place, and a boot that moves makes hiking uncomfortable and unbalanced. Laced properly with the strap done up, the foot stays put.

Underfoot is Gill's stiffest outsole, which spreads toe strap pressure across the foot instead of one narrow bar, and there is moulded textured reinforcement across the bridge so the strap grips instead of sliding. The wrap-around natural rubber sole is non-marking, which club and school boat parks appreciate.

The rear ankle has been reworked for flexibility, so walking down to the water and pulling a boat up the slipway is easier than in a rigid boot.

These suit Optimist, Topper, ILCA and Feva sailors doing regular club racing and training. Get them rinsed in fresh water and dried out between sessions and they will handle a full season.
