Leo Yates ILCA 4

Leo has recently moved from up from his Topper after a brilliant year on the water to the ILCA 4. He has a busy schedule of ILCA events this year and we look forward to working with him to find out what unique parts and systems he is using on his boat.

Let's find out some more info on how and where he started sailing.

When Did You Start Sailing?

I started sailing in April 2015 when I had just turned 7.

What Was Your First Boat?

My first boat was Optimist 3848 which I sailed for just over a year until I crashed into a topper and had to write the boat off due to damage!

What Club Do You Sail From?

Currently I sail from Island Barn SC, just outside of London.

What Was Your Biggest Achievement So Far In Sailing?

At 2022 Topper world championships in Riva del Garda I came 5th and 1st 14 year old.

What Is Your Favourite Venue You Have Sailed At?

It’s a tough one because we go to so many amazing places, however for me it has to be either Lake Garda or Shoreham sailing club. Both for their consistent wind and short distance from launch to sailing, and particularly at shoreham, amazing waves.

What Is Your Main Goal For 2023?

My main goal for 2023 is to win the ILCA 4 national championships in Hayling Island.

Where Would You Most Like To Sail In The Future?

I would love to sail in the Caribbean at some point, just for the warmth, wind and amazing sailing venues I have seen pictures of there.
