To be a World Champion, you need talent, determination, and a rig that won’t let you down. At Sailing Chandlery, we are incredibly proud to support some of the brightest young talents in the sport, and today we are sitting down with Hari Clark to talk about the gear that powers his podium finishes.

If you haven’t followed Hari’s career yet, his resume is nothing short of extraordinary. He made history by becoming the first person to win both the Topper 4.2 Nationals and the World Championships in the same year (2024). After transitioning to the RS Tera, he dominated the fleet at Lake Lipno in the Czech Republic to become the RS Tera Sport World Champion. For the 2026 season, Hari is taking on a double challenge, competing in both the Topper 5.3 and the Tera Pro at their respective World Championships.

Interestingly, Hari has only competed internationally twice, and he has walked away with the gold medal on both occasions. We asked him to take a break from swimming and chess (and avoiding his homework) to tell us about the 5 Pieces of Kit I Can’t Sail Without.

Hari Clark - 5 Pieces of Kit I Can

rooster aquapro gloves

When you are competing at the level Hari is, every millimetre of sheet trim matters. The Rooster Aqua Pro gloves are his top choice for hand protection regardless of the venue.

"These give me great grip and protection during both hot and cold weather," Hari explains. In the Topper and Tera classes, where mainsheet loads can be surprisingly high for younger sailors, having a glove that doesn't slip when wet is vital. The Aqua Pro series is designed with a unique palm material that actually increases its "stickiness" when it hits the water. Whether he is battling the heat of a summer championship or the biting winds of a winter training camp, these gloves ensure he never loses his feel for the boat.

For any sailor looking to emulate Hari’s success, remember that hand fatigue is a performance killer. By using a high-quality glove like the Aqua Pro, you can maintain a lighter, more precise grip on the tiller and sheet, which leads to better boat speed over a long race.

rooster pro laced ankle strap boots

Footwear is often where sailors struggle most with comfort, but Hari has found his perfect match. The Rooster Pro Laced Ankle Strap Boot is a staple in his kit bag for a very specific reason: fit and support.

"I find a lot of boots can be a bit narrow," Hari says, "but these are a great fit for me. More importantly, they give me great support when I'm hiking out." In a Topper or a Tera, hiking is where the race is won or lost. If your boots are "rolling" on your feet or don't provide enough ankle support, you can't put maximum power into the toe straps.

The laced system allows Hari to customise the tightness across the bridge of his foot, while the heavy-duty ankle strap locks everything in place. This rigidity is what allows a World Champion to hike harder and longer than the competition, keeping the boat flat and fast through the chop.

Optimum Time Series 3 Yacht Timer

In championship racing, the start is everything. You can be the fastest sailor on the water, but if you are buried in the second row at the gun, your chances of winning are slim. That is why Hari relies on the Optimum Time Series 3 Yacht Timer.

"It’s the classic timer for serious racing," says Hari. "Timing that starts accurately is key!" The Series 3 is the "big yellow watch" you see on the wrists of sailors at every elite event. Its massive digits make it easy to read at a glance while you are fighting for space on the line, and the "Sync" button is a lifesaver if you miss the first signal.

For Hari, having a reliable, easy-to-use timer means one less thing to worry about during the high-stress pre-start manoeuvres. It allows him to focus on his transit and his gap, knowing exactly how many seconds are left until the puff of smoke from the committee boat.

little hawk mk2 wind indicator

Sometimes the simplest tools are the most effective. Despite all the high-tech gear available in 2026, Hari wouldn't head to a World Championship without his Little Hawk Mk2 Wind Indicator.

"It does a simple job well," he admits. "I’d be a bit lost without it." Mounted at eye level on the mast, the Little Hawk Mk2 is incredibly sensitive and lightweight. In classes like the Topper and Tera, where sensing subtle wind shifts is the key to tactical success, having a reliable reference point for your tacking angles is essential.

It’s a reminder that even at the top level of the sport, mastering the basics—like knowing exactly where the wind is coming from—is what separates the leaders from the rest of the fleet.

rooster 90l carry all sailing bag

Finally, a World Champion needs a way to get all that gear to the venue. Hari uses the Rooster 90L Carry All Sailing Bag to keep his life organised.

"It’s big enough for all the sailing kit, even for a weekend or a full week away," Hari says. One of his favourite features is the dedicated wet compartment. "The wet compartment is very useful too—it keeps the dry clothes away from the salty gear after a day on the water."

When you are travelling internationally to events like the World Championships in the Czech Republic, having a durable, high-capacity bag is a necessity. It’s the "mobile base" that keeps Hari’s gloves, boots, and timers safe and ready for action.

a quick catch up with hari

When he isn't winning world titles, Hari is a typical teenager—albeit one with an incredible trophy cabinet. He loves spending time with his dog and hitting the pool for a swim, and he’s a keen chess player (a hobby that likely helps with his tactical brilliance on the racecourse).

However, even a World Champion has things they aren't fond of. Hari’s "dislikes" list is topped by Chinese food, homework, and—perhaps unsurprisingly for a sailor who lives out of a kit bag—tidying anything!

As he prepares to represent Sailing Chandlery at the Topper 5.3 and Tera Pro World Championships this year, it's shaping to be another great season and we're cheering you on for all of your races.
