What Zhik buoyancy aids are available, and which is right for me?
Zhik offers two main buoyancy aid models, each suited to slightly different sailors: the Performance Racecut PFD and the Active PFD. The most popular is the Performance Racecut Buoyancy Aid which is better suited to dinghy sailors and racers. The Active PFD is the better pick if ease of entry is the priority.
Is a Zhik buoyancy aid the same as a lifejacket?
No, and this is an important distinction. A buoyancy aid and a lifejacket are different pieces of safety equipment, with different certifications and different purposes. Buoyancy aids are suitable for activities such as dinghy sailing where you are likely to end up in the water and where help is nearby. A lifejacket, by contrast, is designed to turn an unconscious person onto their back and keep their airway clear, a life jacket is the right choice for offshore sailing, coastal cruising, or any situation where you may be some distance from help.
How do I care for and maintain my Zhik buoyancy aid?
With proper care, a Zhik buoyancy aid will last several seasons. The key maintenance steps are straightforward: Rinse with fresh water, dry naturally, inspect regularly, store loosely and replace when in doubt.
