Zhik Sailing Gloves - G1 vs G2

This week we've taken delivery of the new Zhik G1 sailing glove in both short and long finger versions.

Last year Zhik introduced their G2 sailing glove and we've had great feedback from sailors in a variety of classes. We're now interested to see how the G2 compares to the new G1 sailing glove.

When Zhik introduced the G1 glove to us as a sample back in July we were impressed, they had taken many of the features of the G2 but had beaten the price down to make the gloves more affordable to the wider sailing market. Although they are totally worth their money the G2 is priced at over £40 a pair.

What are the differences?

  • Essentially, the G1 sailing glove is a lighter weight sailing glove with less padding and protection than the G2.
  • They are both available in short and long finger versions so you can choose what suits you.
  • The G2 sailing glove contains neoprene which gives the padding and protection.
  • The G2 is also going to be warmer for colder weather sailing where the G1 is more suited to the summer.

Zhik G2 Sailing Glove

These were a game changer when they came to market ahead of the 2018 Dinghy Show, and they were very popular with sailors at the show. My personal favourite feature has to be the double attach velcro for the strap which stops the strap flapping around when sailing.

Features

  • Ergonomic pre-shaped pattern
  • Re-inforced palm & finger panelling
  • Durable kevlar stitching
  • Offset panelling in key areas to eliminate traditional pressure points caused by seams
  • Durable abrasion resistant outer face
  • Padding and grip that extends further up the fingers to suit both small and large diameter ropes
  • Great for high performance yacht and dinghy sailing

Zhik G1 Sailing Glove

It's great to be able to pick up the new sailing glove and feel them, they are lighter than their G2 version with the same clever design features.

Features

  • Light weight fabrication which is great for warmer conditions
  • Key performance details have been drawn down from Zhiks more technical gloves
  • Extremely comfortable with ergonomic pre-shaped pattern and offset seams to eliminate bulk and pressure points
  • Re-enforced palm with targeted padding in key areas for comfort and performance
  • Breathable fabric on the back of the hand is light & strong for hotter days
  • Durable Kevlar stitching reinforces the glove
