Why We Love Evolution Race Rope

Here at Sailing Chandlery there is one rope that's our best seller, it's called Evolution Race and is made by Gottifredi Maffioli in Italy.

Also known as Evolution Race 78 this rope has a 12 strand dyneema SK78 core and a hard wearing braided polyester jacket, or outer cover.

This combination means the rope is a superb all rounder that's ideal for halyards, control lines and general purpose applications.

We keep 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm and 6mm diameters of this rope in stock and offer a variety of colours, most recently the new melange colours which have been very popular.

We also sell these ropes in 50m or 100m reels so if you need a longer length do get in touch for a quote.

Here are the reasons why we love Evolution Race rope:

  • It's long lasting
  • It's flexible and not stuff
  • It's great on your hands
  • It's easy to splice into loops and to taper in 4mm and above
  • It's strong with excellent minimum breaking strains
  • It has minimal stretch at only 1% stretch at 20% of the break load
  • Fantastic range of colours to brighten up your boat

We use this rope all over our boats for various applications from jib sheets to control lines to tapered halyards and tack lines.

To give you an idea of minimum breaking strains here are the stats across the diameters:

  • 2mm - 200kgs
  • 3mm - 370kgs
  • 4mm - 820kgs
  • 5mm - 1,275kgs
  • 6mm - 1,885kgs
