Continuous Control Line Rope

There are more and more ropes coming onto the market which are suitable for use as control lines on your sailing dinghy.

In this article we are going to look at Evolution Breeze which is the continuous control line option from Kingfisher Ropes. The rope is available in 4mm and 5mm diameters which will take care of the large majority of your control line requirements.

4mm Evolution Breeze Rope

5mm Evolution Breeze Rope

About the rope

Evolution breeze control line rope has a multi filament polypropylene core and a comes in a melange style with polyester and Technora® cover. The core makes it lightweight and also means that it doesn't absorb water as much as other materials.

The Technora® within the cover means the rope will resist heat when under constant adjustment while you're sailing meaning it will last longer.

The strength in this rope comes from the cover so the rope is ideal for endless splices as the core can be removed to allow the two ends of the rope to be joint.

The melange style of cover has not been added by accident and is not only for appearance the two materials also allow the rope to balance the load on the cover and gives the rope good abrasion resistance.

The average breaking strain of 4mm is 580kgs and the average breaking strain of 5mm is 850kgs, perfect for most dinghies.

We currently have the rope available in four different colours:

  • Blue/Black
  • Red/Black
  • Orange/Black
  • Yellow/Black

This rope has been hugely popular with sailors since we put it onto the shelf with the Yellow/Black being the most popular colour.

If you're wondering how it compares to a rope like Marlow Excel Control, we find it to be a bit smoother through the blocks and it's just as easy to splice.
