As we gear up for the 2026 season, there is one piece of equipment that is often overlooked until you are halfway through a race and your feet are screaming for support. We are talking about sailing trainers.
Whether you are crewing on a yacht, steering on a keelboat or hiking hard on a performance dinghy, your connection to the deck is your connection to the boat’s performance. This year, the innovation in footwear has been incredible, with industry leaders like Zhik and Gill pushing the boundaries of grip, drainage, and all-day comfort in their sailing trainers.
You might be tempted to stick with those old, salt-crusted sailing trainers from last season. But if you have noticed your footing slipping during a tack or your feet staying damp long after the spray has stopped, it is time for an upgrade.
Modern sailing trainers are engineered with specific goals in mind:
Next-Gen Grip: New rubber compounds and refined tread patterns offer superior traction on wet, slick decks.
Advanced Drainage: One-way drainage systems ensure that water escapes quickly without letting any back in, keeping your feet light and dry.
Ergonomic Support: 2026 sailing trainers focus on arch support and flexibility, reducing fatigue during long days on the water.
Versatility: These designs are sleek enough to take from the boat to the clubhouse without looking like you just stepped off a rescue boat.
Zhik continues to lead the way with athlete-driven design. Their new 2026 range of sailing trainers focuses on lightweight construction without sacrificing structural integrity. Their latest trainers feature advanced bonding techniques, reducing weight and waste while increasing durability.
When you are ready to make the switch, these are the standout options for sailing trainers to add to your kit bag this year:
Zhik FUZE Sailing Trainer: The gold standard for 2026. Featuring an integrated one-way drainage system and a high-grip rubber sole, these sailing trainers are perfect for those who demand elite performance.
Gill Pursuit Sailing Shoes: The ultimate all-rounder. These are exceptionally lightweight, feature a quick-release drainage system, and offer an impact-absorbing insole for maximum comfort.
Gill Verso Sailing Trainers: Designed for the sailor who needs extra protection. These sailing trainers offer a slightly more robust build, ideal for tougher conditions, while maintaining the agility of a trainer.
High-performance footwear is an investment. Saltwater and UV rays are the primary enemies of your gear, so follow these tips to keep them in top shape for the 2026 season:
Freshwater Rinse: Always rinse your trainers inside and out with fresh water after use. Salt crystals can become embedded in the lining and fabric, making them abrasive and reducing material lifespan.
Avoid Direct Heat: Never dry your sailing trainers on a radiator or in front of an intense heater. High heat can cause synthetic fabrics to lose their shape and the glues in the soles to fail.
Air Dry: Stuff your trainers with newspaper or a moisture-absorbing cloth to speed up the drying process naturally in a well-ventilated area.
Getting the right fit is critical for comfort and performance on the water. If your trainers are too tight, they will restrict circulation; if they are too loose, they will shift and cause blisters.
When trying them on, ensure you have a small amount of space at the toes, but a snug fit around the midfoot and heel to prevent slipping. If you plan on wearing your trainers with specific technical socks, try them on while wearing those same socks to get an accurate feel.
You can check the updated 2026 sizing guides on our product pages to ensure you get the perfect fit the first time.
The 2026 footwear range proves that you do not have to compromise between protection and performance. By focusing on the small details- like traction patterns, material breathability, and ergonomic footbeds - Zhik and Gill have created a lineup that allows you to focus entirely on your tactics and boat speed.
Whether you are preparing for a championship or just want to stay comfortable during club racing, a fresh pair of trainers is one of the most effective upgrades you can make to your kit bag this year.

I rang to request some advice on replacement parts for my dinghy and was very impressed with the excellent advice and efficient delivery of the required parts. Many thanks
Great product, safely packaged, delivered on time, at a competitive price. One more thing - the person on the end of the phone is an actual person, informative, helpful, knowledgeable and pleasant. What more could you ask for.
The sales team were quick responding to our questions, dispatched to us promptly, and the product is a perfect replacement for our old tiller which ended up at the bottom of a lake!
It was time for me to upgrade to a newer Ilca and it was recommended that I get a Devoti. The price was competitive and the service from Andrew and his team was fantastic. I received lots of communication and the boat was delivered to me within 2 weeks. It is really great that Sailing Chandlery take the time to set up the rigging so that you can get straight on the water. I am very pleased with my new boat and am loving sailing it. Thank you Sailing Chandlery!
Ordered a dyneema RSAero halyard on the Thursday. It arrived by mid day on the Friday and was used on the Saturday. Excellent product and service. Thank you
Cover arrived after three days and is well made and completely covers the boat boom up . The straps and clips all work fine. Good product.
My local chandlery were unable to supply a white inspection hatch and so it was amatter of looking online. Sailing Chandlery had the cover I needed in stock at a good price and delivery. I had never used them before but the service I received was excellent with the delivery on time and the hatch is now fitted.
I will definitely return, especially with the discounts on offer. Thank you Sailing Chandlery!
Always happy with my orders from Sailing Chandlery. They are quick to post and very helpful when I have had a question.
Jason delivered the boat on time at Hayling Island Sailing Club. The boat was new and all the spars were in perfect condition. Jason came to pick up the boat and return the deposit which I gave at the time of the delivery. Every interaction with Andrew and Jason were handled very professionally. I will recommend to any sailor Sailing Chandlery in the future. I really appreciated how easy it was to charter this boat. Thank you very much. Jacques Kerrest
