Maffioli Swiftcord vs Evo Sheet - What Is The Difference?

Looking for new sheet ropes for your boat? In this article we are going to compare two of our favourite sheet ropes Maffioli Swiftcord and Evo Sheet.

Gottifredi Maffioli Swiftcord

Gottifredi Maffioli Swiftcord is a single braid dyneema rope. What this means is that there is no separate core made from Dyneema or polyester like other ropes.

Instead of being in the core the Dyneema material is mixed with non-slip fibres and built into the cover which leads to strength and a better grip on the rope.

Being a hollow braid it means you can perform lots of splicing tricks to this rope, for example, inserting dyneema up the core to add a taper, adding dyneema tails and it can even be spliced into a hard or soft eye.

Swiftcord is great for any rope that you are adjusting regularly by hand. It is ideal for sheets and control lines due to its low stretch and high strength.

Swiftcord is available in 4mm to 10mm thicknesses and a range of colours.

Evolution Sheet

Evo Sheet is an extremely popular budget sheet rope. The lower cost proves popular with many clubs for refitting their club boats. It is also popular for lower performance racing boats with lower loads on the sheets.

Sheet rope is made from a polypropylene core and has a multi-filament polyester outer jacket. It has good abrasion resistance and is lightweight. It is a great rope for the small dinghy and catamarans.

This rope is available in 6mm, 7mm and 8mm diameters and in a range of colours. So only can be used for sheeting applications.

Evo Sheet isn't a bad rope at all. For main, jib and kite sheets on many boats this is more than enough and doesn't warrant the extra cost dyneema brings.

Our Recommendations

  • Use Swiftcord if you are constantly adjusting the sheet on a high performance dinghy or catamaran - it's very soft on your hands
  • Use Swiftcord if you want to save some weight on your boat
  • Use Evo Sheet on lower load applications - Topper, Laser, Pico sheets for example
