Dyneema Shockcord at Sailing Chandlery

Here at Dinghy Rope we've just added Dyneema Shockcord to our stock of existing shockcord ropes.

Shockcord elastic made with dyneema has seen an increase of popularity through 2017 and is now being used by a number of sailors for various uses on their boats.

The new dyneema shockcord is made using the same process of normal shockcord but instead of having a polyester outer it's made of dyneema.

Since we had the initial samples in we've been testing the product with William Harrison and his Nacra 15. He has been very impressed with the quality and its break strain, in fact it's saved him and crew Arabella many times where others have lost a race during a capsize or pitchpole. In his case the crew has travelled further than they should but the shockcord hasn't broken it's kept in one piece which has meant they haven't been re rigging trapeze lines like others mid race.

Other sailors are using the shockcord in other take up systems where the shockcord gives more and tends to last longer.

Benefits of Dyneema Shockcord

Dyneema shockcord elastic has the following benefits:

  • Absorbs high shock loads
  • Good abrasion resistance
  • Good UV resistance
  • High elasticity

We recommend dyneema shockcord for trapeze lines, take up systems and where you need the shockcord to stop stretching earlier.

Dinghy Rope sell dyneema shockcord from Marlow Ropes currently and it's available in 4mm and 5mm diameters.
